Samuel Gillard, Vice President, is a recognized energy storage expert with deep ties to the US Department of Energy (DOE). Prior to SMI, Gillard served at the DOE for six years and most recently as the Technology Development and Supply Chain Manager for the DOE’s Vehicle Technologies Office (VTO) and the Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains Office (MSEC) where he worked on the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s $6 billion battery supply chain program and as technical lead for the lithium battery supply chain.
Gillard was the primary author of the Biden Administration’s 2021 100-Day Report on the Battery Supply Chain for high-capacity batteries. Samm also managed DOE’s efforts in battery recycling, fast charging, battery testing and managed the VTO SBIR portfolio for battery technology. During his tenure at the DOE, he performed technical reviews for VTO, MESC, the DPA Title III program, ARPA-E and other program offices within DOE. Samm also served on the Federal Consortium for Advanced Batteries (FCAB) and led the government efforts to develop recycling.
Gillard holds a BS in Material Science and Engineering with a specialization in Nanotechnology from the University of Maryland, College Park.
